Q. Does the state accept EMT & Fire Training Continuing Education Courses?
A. EMT & Fire Training continuing education courses are CAPCE accredited and accepted by the NREMT. You should confirm with your state EMS office that they accept CAPCE accredited Continuing Education.
Q. Can I become a certified and licensed EMT or AEMT in Iowa if I pass the EMT & Fire Training EMT (Basic) or AEMT Course?
A. Yes. EMT & Fire Training's ETM (Basic) and AEMT (Intermediate) courses, help you to get Nationally Certified with the NREMT upon completion of our course and the passing of the National Registry practical and cognitive exams. The state of Iowa posted that if you are a current member of the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT), you may be granted an appropriate Iowa certification. Additional training to meet Iowa certification requirements may be necessary.

Q. Where is the state of Iowa in the transition from the National Standard Curriculum to the new National EMS Education Standards?
A. The state of Iowa is working on transitioning to the new EMS guidelines. They have a step-by-step procedure for each level of EMT to make the adjustment.

Q. Does Iowa require any extra EMT training that EFT does not provide in its course?
A. The Iowa Bureau of EMS will decide upon receipt of certificate and course-curriculum verification if any extra training is needed.
Q. How do I recertify for EMS in the State of Iowa?

The refresher is 24 hours, and includes 10 hours of self-directed learning, and 14 hours of Virtual Instructor Led Training (VILT) sessions where a real instructor is present to answer questions and discuss the topics. It is fully accepted by the NREMT and is CAPCE accredited. This is only one of the few online refreshers that meet the actual requirements by the NREMT to be counted as an official refresher. You have 2 years to complete the refresher from the time you sign up (or you can usually get it done in as little as 2 to 3 weeks). The cost of the refresher is $249.
Q. I failed the NREMT exam 3 times already. Will your 24 Hour Online EMT Refresher allow me to retest with the NREMT?
A. Yes. Once you pass our 24 Hour EMT Online Refresher course you will have 3 more opportunities at taking the NREMT Exam. The Course is accepted by the NREMT and covers all 24 hours of the Mandatory Core and Content required. To insure that you pass on your next attempt you can practice for the exam with our test prep site.
Q. I failed the NRAEMT exam 3 times already. Will your 36 Hour Online AEMT Refresher allow me to retest with the NREMT?
A. Yes. Once you pass our 36 Hour AEMT Online Refresher course you will have 3 more opportunities at taking the NRAEMT Exam. The Course is accepted by the NREMT for both AEMT and I85 and covers all 36 hours of the Mandatory Core and Flexible Core Content required. Q. Will your 36 Hour Online AEMT Refresher allow me to recertify as an Advanced EMT?
A. To recertify with the National Registry as an AEMT you will need to complete the 36 Hour AEMT Refresher, an additional 36 Continuing Education (CE's) hours, and have a current CPR Certification. If you are doing this Refresher for State Licensure, please check with your state first to see if they will accept this 36 Hour Online AEMT Refresher that is CAPCE approved and NREMT accepted.

Q. Does the state of Iowa accept IFSAC Certification for reciprocity?
A. Yes. The Fire Service Training Bureau has a process for reciprocity of certifications if the applicant is IFSAC or ProBoard certified.
Training with EMT & Fire Training will help you to receive your IFSAC certification upon successful completion of the course and IFSAC exams.
*FSTB (Fire Service Training Bureau) is the authorized state agency that is in charge of providing firefighter certifications. The State of Iowa does not have a licensure process for firefighters.
